A Place To Be You

Copelands Transitional Accommodation Service is a program for LGBTQI+ youth. We provide residents with not only accommodation but also support from our wellness services.

Beginnings

Beginnings

Copelands is Western Australia's first LGBTQI+ youth crisis and transitional accommodation service.
It opened its doors in of June 2018, and the need has been so great that AYLA Inc. has expanded Copeland’s to multiple sites based within the City of Cockburn.

Residents

Residents

Residents consist of a mixture of couples and singles that identify as LGBTQI+ and under the age of 30 years. They are supported by a team of qualified and experienced staff, providing them with the safety and security of a home.
The residents are given work opportunities at DION and CON to increase their skill sets and confidence, overcoming their own personal barriers and hardships they are facing in their life.

Do You Meet the Criteria?

To consider if Copelands is the best housing option for you, please see the information and eligibility criteria below:

  • Copelands is a medium-term supported transitional housing service that accommodates residents who are aged 16-30 years old.

  • The fortnightly rent is $400 per fortnight. This includes all bills, Wi-Fi, rent and property running costs. Holding deposit is two weeks rent ($400).

  • If you choose to live at a Copelands property you will be eligible to apply for the maximum rent assistance from Centrelink (around $100 per fortnight).

  • As a Copelands resident you will also have access to weekly food hampers arranged through the AYLA Inc. foodbank based in Cockburn. The duration of your stay is dependent on individual circumstances and this can be discussed/reviewed with your AYLA Inc. case manager.

Successful applicants must be rainbow friendly and accepting of others.

  • As Copelands is a transitional housing service, applicants must be able to live independently. This includes budgeting, food shopping and cooking for self, along with cleaning and maintaining the allocated property. Living independently will also include utilising public transport to access day to day community needs and commitments.

  • AYLA Inc. staff members do not live at the Copelands properties and are not able to provide out of office hours (9.00am-17.00pm) support, so if you think you may require support outside of these times then Copelands may not be the best option for you.

  • Copelands residents are supported an average of one hour per fortnight by Ayla Inc.’s case manager. This support will include person centred, strength based goal planning along with reviewing goals and actions on a fortnightly basis.

  • Copelands residents have the option to become involved in the Ayla community which includes volunteering at the Op shop, food bank, hair salon, mobile dog wash and farm.
